What’s Not To Love About Omegas?
I love writing Omegaverse because Omegas embody what many women (and some men) desire in a romantic partnership. While I don’t speak for all people, I find that I am specifically writing my stories for readers who share the same desires as me.
Most people want safety and stability in relationships. In Omegaverse, the Alphas often are driven to provide and care for their Omegas, creating stability for their mates and, in turn, safety. There is safety in stability.
Also, with Omegaverse partnerships, there is a common dominance and submission theme, a power dynamic with a give-and-take dynamic. One partner leads while the other follows. It is a common misconception that the more dominant partner holds the power in the relationship when in fact, one can’t exist without the other there is power in both dynamics. You need both dominance and submission to co-exist and live in harmony.
Omegas know what they want. Omegas are not normally indecisive beings. Most commonly, they know what they want in both sexuality and biology. The only time I really see an Omega as indecisive is sometimes while building their nest to get it just right. Most often, decisions are made for them. The freedom in letting go of control is a big part of what I desire in life and romance.
The last thing I love and am obsessed with in regard to Omegas is that they are cherished and sometimes spoiled by their mates. I love that the Alpha’s world often revolves around the needs and desires of their partners. Omegas are often pampered to an extreme degree. What is not to love about that?
Typical Attributes and Traits of Omegas in Omegaverse
These are general themes. Like with most things, there are always outliers or exceptions to the general or expected rules.
Omegas are most commonly paired with their counterparts, Alphas. They are often seen as smaller in size and stature.
There are a lot of dominance and submission themes and characteristics in the Omegaverse, and normally Omegas are found to be submissive or have submissive traits to Alphas.
They are also driven by their biology and their desire to breed and mate. This often shows up with a biological drive triggered by an Alpha’s scent or pheromones. They are also driven to find mates.
Often their sexual desires and biological imperative are more intense during their heats. There are no set commonalities in the Omegaverse around an Omega’s heat cycle except to say that there is a lot of sexual activity and a more fertile season. Everything as a whole is more intense and activated during this time.
Omegas love to nest. They seek comfort and often safety in their nest. Most commonly, an Omega builds a nest for their partner (or partners) to enjoy their heat in. Sometimes the Alpha needs to be invited in, much like the common vampire tendency.
Characteristics of My Covenant Omegas
In my Covenant Omegaverse, my Omegas have many of the common traits found in the general Omegaverse, but there are some differences.
In Covenant, there is a caste system based on dynamic. There is an elite caste and several lower castes in society (Alphas, Betas, and Dhamphir). Dynamic status determines one’s place.
Among the elite, Alphas are at the top of social, business, and political circles. It’s a patriarchal society where Omegas are protected and cared for by the Alpha of their House.
Also, in my world, only Alpha and Omega pairings can produce more Alphas and Omegas. They alone control the breeding of more Alphas; therefore, breeding rights become critical for the vampiric bloodlines.
Omegas have special alcoves for their nests called. They vary in size, shape, and function. They are often customized to the Omega or Alpha’s needs. The nest is the most important part of a couple’s home. This space is sacred for the couple and ensures the Omega is safe during her heat.
Pair bonds occur after a mating claim which is after a period of courting for an Omega and Alpha pair. During an Omega’s heat, an Alpha can bond with their Omega with a claiming bite, forming an unbreakable bond. It can be viewed similarly to a lifelong marriage.
While Omegas are often seen as the weaker of the two dynamics, I believe they are actually more resilient and strong as a result of their Omega nature. Without Omega mates, Alphas have no future, and their wealth and status would only survive for the remainder of a generation.
